Description
The Forgotten Conquest of the Old NorthwestA Kegley Lecture Series Program On Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 pm, join us at Christ Lutheran Church for a fascinating lecture exploring one of the most consequential—and least remembered—campaigns of the American Revolution. In 1778–79, George Rogers Clark led an audacious and seemingly impossible military expedition deep into British-held territory west of the Appalachians. Against overwhelming odds, a small force of Virginia frontiersmen secured a victory so decisive that it reshaped the map of North America. The future states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and part of Minnesota became American territory—setting the stage for the young nation to double in size at the Treaty of Paris. Yet today, this remarkable story is rarely told. This lecture uncovers Clark’s secret mission: a tale of daring strategy, improvisation, hardship, and unexpected humor, set against the brutal realities of warfare on the early American frontier. Tuesday, February 24 7:00 pm Christ Lutheran Church Speaker: Eric MondayEric Monday is a lifelong Virginian and graduate of the University of Virginia. Eric Monday is general counsel at the Roanoke Airport and for the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution as well as president of the Fincastle Resolutions SAR chapter in Roanoke. He is a member of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Commission for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. History enthusiasts, Revolutionary War buffs, and anyone curious about the forgotten moments that shaped the United States will not want to miss this program.
