Music on the Corner

This is the Music on the Corner winter concert featuring The University Singers, the premier choral ensemble at Washington and Lee University. The concert will begin at 6:00 PM on Friday, February 27th at St. John’s Episcopal Church at the corner of Jefferson St. and Elm Avenue in downtown Roanoke.The University Singers continues to be acknowledged as one of the finest a cappella choirs in the region. They have been recognized for their excellence in performance by the American Choral Directors Association, the Virginia Music Educators Association, and featured in solo choir programs at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, the National Cathedral and American Academy of Music. As an internationally competitive choir, the University Singers have received numerous festival and competition invitations, placements, and awards, including being the first American choir to compete at the City of Derry International Choir Festival in Ireland.At W&L, the University Singers are the centerpiece of the choral campus life, performing in concerts and convocations while regularly hosting residencies and performing world debuts of works by some of the world’s top composers. Student members of the University Singers represent over 30 of the 37undergraduate major concentrations and the law school. Membership in the University Singers is chosen by a competitive audition process each spring.Their program at Music on the Corner is part of their annual winter tour of venues in multiple states. The concert will include a variety of music, both a capella and accompanied, from classical to contemporary composers. The event is family friendly and will last about an hour.
