Description
Discover how to identify common trees in our forest while uncovering the hidden strategies they use to compete for sunlight each spring. As temperatures warm competition heats up for the most important thing in the forest – sunlight! How can living things that must compete for resources work with and around each other to survive? Take a 1.5 mile walk with a ranger on Buck Hill trail and you will not only come away knowing your oaks from your hickories, you will see how the woody inhabitants of the forest come together to form a community. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. To register, call (540) 254-0795. Prepayment is taken at time of registration by credit card over the phone, and you will be emailed a receipt. The program fee will be the standard $5 parking fee per vehicle; pre-payment will be for the number of vehicles your group plans to bring. Buck Hill trail is rated moderate for steady elevation gain; you will be going uphill and downhill over the course of the 1.5 mile walk. If you have concerns about being able to attend the program, please call (540) 254-0795 to speak with a ranger.
