Description
Welcome to START, a series designed for artists ages 10 and up! Whether you’re a total beginner or looking for an artistic refresher, this class is for you. Each month, we will explore a new topic to help you build a strong foundation and expand your knowledge and skills in the arts. This month, we ll learn about the relationship between positive and negative space. We ll start out by looking at masterpieces such as cut-outs of Henri Matisse and tessellations of M.C. Escher. After exploring how these artists used empty space to create their work, you will apply these concepts through the traditional Japanese design practice of Notan, using paper-cutting techniques to transform flat paper into dynamic, high-contrast compositions. Registration is required. Members: $16 | General Public: $20 Add to Calendar Driving? Get Directions Share This! Register Now Venue: Event Category:

More about Taubman Museum of Art
The Taubman is a striking 75,000 square foot Randall Stout-designed building that's hard to miss. Inside are a dozen galleries and a steady rotation of exhibitions throughout the year. They also run evening events, lectures, and community nights that bring in a different crowd than the usual downtown flow. Even if you're just passing through, the space itself is worth seeing.
