The Word is an instrumental supergroup steeped in the sacred-steel gospel tradition - pedal-steel virtuoso Robert Randolph, keyboardist John Medeski (Medeski Martin & Wood), and the North Mississippi Allstars (Luther and Cody Dickinson). Born from a shared love of the Arhoolie "Sacred Steel" recordings, the band turns House-of-God church music into wordless, deep-grooving jams. With Medeski's organ and electric piano pushing into experimental territory and Randolph's steel soaring overhead, The Word bridges gospel, blues, and rock into something transcendent - built for a wide-open festival field.
