Summer START Class: Shape

Description

Young artists who have completed Grade 3 and up are invited to explore one of art’s most essential building blocks: shape! In this engaging Summer START class, students will discover how artists use shape to create structure, movement, pattern, and meaning in works of art. Guided by an experienced art educator with more than 20 years of classroom teaching, students will begin with an age-appropriate introduction to the concept of shape, then head into the galleries to see how artists put this element to work. After gathering inspiration from real works of art, students will return to the classroom to create their own unique projects, applying what they’ve learned in a hands-on, creative way. Designed especially for youth learners, Summer START provides a safe, welcoming environment where students can build skills, grow confidence, and have fun exploring the foundations of art. While students are immersed in class, parents and caregivers are welcome to enjoy the galleries at their own p

More about Taubman Museum of Art

The Taubman is a striking 75,000 square foot Randall Stout-designed building that's hard to miss. Inside are a dozen galleries and a steady rotation of exhibitions throughout the year. They also run evening events, lectures, and community nights that bring in a different crowd than the usual downtown flow. Even if you're just passing through, the space itself is worth seeing.
