Kegley LectureTuesday, September 29, 7:00 pmChrist Lutheran Church$5 /Free for HSWV Members "A Dutch Agriculturalist, a Virginia Patriot, and the Value of Biography" The Historical Society of Western Virginia's Kegley Lecture Series returns from its summer break with author Wyatt Golden, whose new book, A Zealous and Active Patriot: The Revolutionary Life and Times of a Forgotten Virginia Hero, explores the remarkable life of Colonel Charles Lynch. In this engaging lecture, Golden will share how his fascination with overlooked stories led him to the art of biography and the rediscovery of one of Revolutionary Virginia's most intriguing figures. Through the story of Colonel Lynch, he will explore how individual lives can offer fresh perspectives on the American Revolution and why biography remains one of history's most powerful storytelling tools. The O. Winston Link Museum focuses on black-and-white photography of Norfolk & Western steam trains from the 1950s. There are over 300 images, many shot at night, which is part of what makes them interesting. It's located in the old railway station right next to Hotel Roanoke. If you have interest in trains or photography, it's worth the time.
